West Branch High School Class of 2022 graduate Joseph “Joe” Heithoff will compete Saturday in a singing competition to open for Plain White T’s.
Heithoff, who is majoring in marketing, is a sophomore at Iowa State University, which will host the concert and competition.

“There were some pretty talented people that went during the prelims, and I only saw half of them because there were 29 contestants at the time,” Heithoff said of auditioning. “I didn’t know what to expect, so I got the email saying I was in, I was pretty excited! I haven’t performed a lot since high school, but I am proud of myself for continuing to pursue my passion for music and performing.”

In the audition, he performed, “Purpose,” a piano ballad by Justin Bieber.

However, he has yet to decide what he will sing on Saturday.

“I hope the audience will be impressed by my performance,” Heithoff said.

The multi-platinum Plain White T’s, most known for “Hey There Delilah,” will host the contest as part of ISU’s annual Cyclone Voice.

Doors open for the free event at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show in the Memorial Union’s Durham Great Hall. A member of the Plain White T’s will introduce each of the 14 competitors, all of whom attend ISU.

A son of Brad and Laura Heithoff, Joe is one of seven competitors from Iowa. The others hail from Kansas (2), Minnesota, California, Texas, Illinois, and New York.
