by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · March 27, 2024

Two passengers received minor injuries after a rollover crash on March 20 about two miles south of West Branch.
According to West Branch Fire Chief Kevin Stoolman, the driver and two others climbed out of the black 2008 Toyota Camry soon after the crash at about 2:08 p.m. near 2379 Baker Avenue.

Both WBFD and Johnson County Ambulance Service personnel treated the injuries at the scene.

According to a Cedar County Sheriff’s Department crash report by Deputy Matt Fields, driver Charles Ngabo, 36, of Iowa City was driving northbound on Baker and a witness stated that the car went onto the east shoulder and overcorrected, then drove toward the west side of the road and into the ditch before rolling over.

The car came to rest on its roof in a farm field about 50 feet from the west side of the road.

Feza Moshi, 27, of Iowa City, and Bikyeombe Zawadi Mtuelwa, 27, of Iowa City, both received minor injuries and were transported by JCAS to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for further treatment.

Fields said the car received about $5,000 in damage and was listed as “totaled.” Teo’s Towing hauled the Camry away.

The deputy reported that Ngabo was wearing a seat belt but it was unknown if the passengers were wearing seat belts.

Ngabo received a citation for failure to maintain control.

Also responding to the scene were West Branch Police Department and West Liberty Police Department.
