Snow came, but not how predicted

West Branch saw several waves of snowfall move through the area, but not like the meteorologists predicted.

The West Branch United Methodist Church canceled its evening activities Feb. 8 and West Branch Community Schools, as well as the Hoover campus, closed Friday, all in anticipation of four to 10 inches of accumulation.

The City of West Branch issued a snow emergency from 6 p.m. Thursday through 6 p.m. Friday.

However, each snowfall only brought one to three inches, starting with Thursday night, the following with Friday morning, but stopping with plenty of time for the plows to clear.

No snow fell the rest of the day Friday, and the Hoover National Historic Site reopened at 10 a.m.

More snow came over the weekend, adding up to about 8 inches over the week.
