Boys set school record in sprint medley

At the Tipton Early Bird track and field meet March 28, the boys’ team set a school record in the sprint medley and set a few personal records on the way.


Team scores: 1) Mount Vernon 134, 2) Anamosa 92, 3) Cascade 83, 4) Central DeWitt 73, 5) Regina 48, 6) Tipton 34, 7) North Cedar 33, 8) Beckman 26.5, Wilton 24, 10) Solon 20.5, 11) West Branch 13

“It was our first outdoor meet of the year,” West Branch Head Coach Taylor Larson said. “The kids were really excited to get outside, run, and to improve.

“We set a new school record in the 800 medley. The team of Wyatt Goodale, Luca Passeri, Tanner Lukavsky, and Trey Eagle ran a time of 1:45.57. Trey Eagle ran a great split of 56 seconds for his first high school outside 400.”

Levi Kleinmeier, Dakota Kaalberg, Dalyn Pedersen, and Brandon Rummelhart also ran the race, finishing with a time of 1:53.80.

In the 110m hurdles race, Cooper Kabela finished third in 16.67.

“He ran a clean race, and he will improve as the season goes along,” Larson said. Jonathan Wargo finished the race in 20.62.

John Muckler placed seventh in the 3200m run with a time of 11:14.87. “(He) had a huge new personal record,” Larson said. Atlas Kolpin ran the race in 11:23.96.

In the 400m dash, John Yates was seventh in 56.42. “Yates ran a personal record in the 400,” Larson said.

Eagle finished the race in 57.57.

The other personal record set was by Colton Dietz in the discus. “Dietz set a new personal record with a discus throw of 111-01 feet,” Larson said. Cale Donovan had a throw of 98-04, and Jacob Barnhart had a throw of 81-10.

In the 100m dash, Passeri finished in 12.74. Dalyn Pedersen ran a 12.91, and Ben Kyllingstad finished in 14.50.

Lukavsky ran the 200 dash in 25.62, Eagle finished in 26.02, and Rummelhart finished in 27.86.

In the 800m run, Kolpin finished in 2:17.95, Jacob Graves finished in 2:20.42, and Muckler finished in 2:26.06.

In the 1600m run, Jordan Baldwin took fifth place with a time of 5:01.53.

Ben Thompson finished in 5:28.69, and Keegan Sotelo finished in 5:43.51.

The 4x800 team of Yates, Graves, B. Thompson, and Baldwin finished in fourth place with a time of 9:04.53. The team of Zach Thompson, Will Martin, Sotelo, and Nathan Hintz finished the race in 10:22.74.

In the 400m hurdles, Trevor Thein finished in 1:08.30, Passeri finished in 1:09.24, and Kyllingstad finished in 1:19.97.

Dietz put the shot 39-10.00. Jacob Barnhardt put the shot 33-06.00, and Chris Mahon put the shot 32-01.25.

The 4x100 team of Luke Lenoch, Kabela, Goodale, and Lukavsky finished in 50.04.

The 4x200 team of Kleinmeyer, Dakota Kaalberg, Billy Friis, and Rummelhart finished in 1:50.60.

Two 4x400 teams ran at the meet. The team of Yates, Thein, Friis, and Kyllingstad finished with a time of 4:19.26. The team of Z. Thompson, Martin, Hintz, and Barrett Walsh finished in 4:36.26.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Kabela, Goodale, Thein, and Frees finished with a time of 1:10.81.

In the distance medley relay race, the team of Goodale, Lukavsky, Friis, and Walsh finished in 4:42.29.

“As coaches, we were very happy with how our student-athletes competed,” Larson said. “We made some great strides, improved, and are staying positive.”
