Norbert C. “Mike” Michel, 88, of Solon, formerly of Iowa City and West Liberty, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa. Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with a Christian Wake service. Burial with military honors was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, rural Hills. Norbert was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Iowa City, the son of Walter and Agnes (Rummelhart) Michel. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City.

On April 7, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marlovene Vincent in Iowa City. Mike had worked at Meyers Motor, Hartwig Motors and Breese Napa Auto Parts.

He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed flowers, gardening and was always barefoot. Mike was a die-hard New York Yankee’s and Oakland Raiders fan.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip (Marci) Michel of Solon and Jack (Sharon) Michel of Coralville; two grandchildren, CJ and Hailee; and a sister, Mary Jean Kessler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marly; and two brothers, Donald and Richard.
