An Indiana man sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing a West Branch man filed an appeal.

Paul Joseph Boruch, 45, of South Bend, Ind., was found guilty Oct. 21 on counts of willfully causing serious injury, a Class C felony, and going armed with intent, a Class D felony, after stabbing Richard Daniel Edmunds, 43, of West Branch on July 8.

After a jury trial, Boruch was sentenced to 15 years on the serious injury charge and ordered to have no contact with Edmunds for five years after release from prison. He was sentenced to a minimum of three years for going armed with intent. The two sentences are to run concurrently.

According to the Appellate Court, Boruch filed a one-sentence request to appeal his case, but has not yet filed a full brief to explain his reasons to appeal.

Boruch was found guilty of stabbing Edmunds twice in the back during a carnival, where they both worked, at the Dallas County Fairgrounds. One of the knives had to be surgically removed.
