Feb. 9 meeting on $400K school vote
News · January 29, 2015

West Branch Community Schools will ask voters on April 7 to vote on continuing its Instructional Support Levy, which generates about $390,000 from property taxes and an income surtax.

The Board of Education had the option of continuing the tax for five years without voter approval, or 10 years with voter approval.

Since the school board will put the question to the voters, it will host a hearing 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 in the West Branch High School auditorium to allow for public comment and questions.

The levy has been in place for 20 years. It covers about 4 to 5 percent of the district's regular program costs like buying textbooks, software, materials and classroom equipment, and paying for things like enrichment programs and training.
