Can you do it all at Hoover’s Hometown Days?

Parade. Games. Zip line. Bounce houses. Hooverball. Bags tournament. Food court. Live music. Roving magician. Pedal tractor pull. Hymn sing. Rage Theatrics. Talent show. Presidential impersonator. Pony rides. Water ball fights. Robotics team demonstration … and more and more and more.

Reviewing the list of things to do Aug. 1 and 2 is almost exhausting itself, and the “wow factor” is that most of it — aside from the food — is free.

The weather forecast for this weekend is gorgeous, too: low 80s, mostly sunny. Bring gobs of friends, and have a great time.

The Hoover Presidential Foundation, Main Street West Branch and City of West Branch again have gathered up a bunch of volunteers, raised money, worked with groups and businesses and spent countless hours planning for this very special weekend.

Just a few years ago, there were two events: Hooverfest and Hometown Days. Both were wonderful, giving us events in June and August. But together, the festival is mind-blowing and ever-changing.

Feedback from visitors is that they like how so many things are free, so these groups work hard to keep it that way, which really brings in the out-of-towners. And each year, based on feedback, events get added and dropped, locations get moved a little bit to a lot, and favorites keep coming back.

Step back and see if there are many other cities of 2,400 which can put on a great weekend festival of this size and breadth. Without partners like the Hoover Complex and MSWB, how could you?

We can’t help but be astounded year to year by the number of volunteer hours and wide range of activities spread throughout the downtown, churches, businesses and the Hoover Complex.

5K. $10,000 raffle. Hoover Life Celebration. Birthday cake. Silent Auction. Classic cars. Museum tours. Sand pile. Mega chess. Face painting … and on and on and on.

And it all finishes with a bang — fireworks.

Come and join the fun!
