Robert D. Kircher, 85, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial services were Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. A visitation was held before service time. Private family burial will be held at a later date in the West Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or First United Methodist Church in Marion.

Robert was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Des Moines, the son of Garland and Mildred Mentzer Kircher. He was a graduate of Iowa City High School in 1941 and received his bachelor of science at College of Commerce degree at the University of Iowa in 1950.

On Aug. 21, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean Sorensen at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City.

Robert served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1942 until 1945.

He had been employed as comptroller for John Deere Harvester Works in Moline, Illinois from 1951-63 and John Deere Horicon Works in Horicon, Wisc., from 1963 until his retirement in 1982. In June of 2002 Bob and Betty moved to Marion.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion, past member of First United Presbyterian Church in Horicon, Wis., where he served as financial agent and elder, past member of First United Presbyterian Church in Hustisford, Wis., member of Hustisford, Wis., American Legion Post 420, past treasurer of the Dodge County Mental Health Association, served as a volunteer guardian for Dodge County, Wis., clients for 20 years, charter board member and treasurer, Rock River Hills Golf Club, Horicon, Wis., as well as a member of the Neosho-Maysville-Horicon Mason Lodge #108 F.& A.M. Bob was also a member of the National Association of Accountants and was a private pilot.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Kircher of Cedar Rapids; two children: Barbara (Kenneth) Flouro of Tony, Wis., and James (Christine) Kircher of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Tonya Flouro Catlin of Appleton, Wis., Aaron Flouro of Las Vegas, Jacob, Ben and Anna Kircher of Cedar Rapids; great-grandson Carter Catlin of Appleton, Wis.; and brother Garland Kircher of Brownsville, Ind.
