Rosemary Agnes Maske, 91, passed away on June 2, 2025.
Rosemary (Rosie) was born on March 16, 1934, to Edmund J. and Ada Pauline (Bowman) Langenberg in Johnson County.
She attended Country School until she entered St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City, graduating in 1951. Rosie worked for the University of Iowa statistical department following graduation.
On April 25, 1953, she was united in marriage with William Lewis Maske at Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City.
They moved to West Branch where they raised four children. She participated in many volunteer activities, including the Crestview Care Center and the Hoover Presidential Library Foundation, as well as helping to start the local Meals on Wheels program and worked as their treasurer.
Rosie was also a 4H Leader, Sunday school teacher, and worked in the kitchen at West Branch High School for 17 years after raising her children.
Early on, Rosie enjoyed roller skating, where she first met her future husband, William (Bill). Together they did much traveling, including trips to Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and most of the lower forty-eight states. They also spent several winters in Arizona.
They enjoyed two cruises, to Alaska and the Panama Canal. Bowling, golfing, playing cards and get-togethers with friends and family were also among her favorite activities.
And she was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and son Lawrence.
Survivors include her children and their families: Gary (Linda) Maske of Cedar Rapids, and Gary’s children: Anna (Rawson) Agnew, Danny, Ben (Stephanie), John, Sam and Rachel; Marian (Kerry) Griebenow of Tucson, Ariz.; Diane (Mohamed) Hamdan of Verona, Wis., and children Jamila, Tarek and Maya; and daughter-in-law Joan (Lawrence) Maske of North Liberty, and children Elizabeth (Brian) Hagedorn, Abigail (Alex) Hayes, and Hannah (Justin) Bonzato.
She is further survived by one brother, Larry Langenberg; a sister-in-law Johnita Langenberg; as well as nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ron Langenberg, and sisters Margie Floerchinger and Kathleen Rios.
A private funeral service will be assisted by Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch, with burial in the West Branch Cemetery.
