82nd Indivisible: Iowans deciding to host town halls without Miller-Meeks in attendance Op-Ed · April 16, 2025
Ever been ghosted by someone when you really need to talk to them?
Phone calls, emails, letters unanswered and when you go in person, they are never there?
It is especially frustrating when a person is required to be there, even if they don’t want to hear what you have to say, because it is their job.
Right now, there are thousands of people who are very anxious to speak to their representatives.
In case you haven’t noticed, there is a man with a chainsaw who we didn’t elect who is cutting government services at breakneck speed that Americans hold dear and depend on like Medicare, Medicaid and the Veteran’s Administration, just to name a few.
It is true that town halls have become contentious, even rowdy at times.
Perhaps this is because some representatives, while issuing statements that are meant to be calm and reassuring like Marianette Miller-Meeks, “the outrage over Musk’s role in government isn’t about accountability, but fear of exposing corruption,” at the very same time are supporting a cut of 83,000 employees from the VA, a 46% reduction of support staff, without any kind of workflow analysis.
Miller-Meeks’ mailbox is full. She does not respond to emails.
If you attend her town halls by phone, there is little chance that you will be allowed to ask a question.
Now Iowans are angry. They are holding town halls without her in Davenport, Iowa City and Mount Pleasant. They are asking if she even lives in their district.
She has a lot of nerve to give support to DOGE’s return-to-office mandate, forcing VA psychiatrists to meet with their PTSD patients in break rooms, closets, hallways, gymnasiums and insecure cubicles, when she isn’t even showing up for work herself.
Next Social: April 17, 5:30 p.m. at Mexico Lindo, 711 N. Downey St., West Branch.
