Property tax appeals due April 25
News · April 16, 2025

Cedar County property owners have until April 25 to appeal their assessment notices, according to the county assessor’s office.
The January 1, 2025, Assessment Notices should have arrived by now in mailboxes.

These values are based on real estate sales that occurred in Cedar County in 2024 for residential and commercial class properties, according to a press release.

Assessments are to be at 100 percent of the fair market value unless otherwise provided by the Code of Iowa.

If you disagree with your assessment value, start by asking a few questions:

• What are similar properties selling for in my area?

• What would I expect to list or sell this property for today?

• What information do I have to support my value?

Property owners can do research on assessed and market value by visiting www.cedarcounty.iowa.gov/GIS. The website offers comparable sales search and sale price information.

If you still disagree with the assessed value, there are two options to appeal. You can request an informal review with the Assessor until April 25 or file a petition with the Board of Review until April 30.

“When stating your opinion (that) the value is too high, please be prepared to state your estimate of fair market value and present any supporting evidence,” read the release.

Forms are available at cedarcounty.iowa.gov/assessor.

The informal review form is in the Property Assessments tab. The Board of Review petition is in the Board of Review tab.

Completed forms will be accepted by mail or submitted electronically to cdauber@cedarcounty.iowa.gov.
