Cedar County enacts burn ban News · March 06, 2024
Cedar County Emergency Management Agency Director Jodi Freet on Feb. 29 enacted an open burning ban with the approval of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, according to a press release.
The burn ban took effect at noon that day and will remain in effect until Freet notifies the state fire marshal. Monday night’s thunderstorm did not cancel the burn ban.
Violating an open burning ban constitutes a simple misdemeanor, pursuant to Iowa Code 100.40(1-3).
Freet said she contacted the state fire marshal after consulting with area fire departments.
