Scattergood walks to draw attention to climate change News · November 08, 2013
Scattergood Friends School and Farm students took part in a 14.5-mile Earth Walk on Sunday through West Branch and to Iowa City's Pedestrian Mall to draw attention to climate disruption. The walk followed a Saturday workshop called "Climate Change: Where Faith Leads Us."
West Branch Police Department helped escort the group through the city from east to west down Herbert Hoover Highway while the group also picked up nine contractor bags of garbage, Scattergood Head of School Christine Ashley said.
Police Chief Mike Horihan noticed the connection between the message and the trash pick-up, "It was awesome," he said.
"They not only talked the talk but walked the walk … They were making a difference to the environment."
