Donald L. Mundell, 67, of Atalissa, died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Family received friends Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Fry Funeral Home, in Tipton immediately followed by the funeral service beginning at 6:30 pm. Don will be cremated following the funeral and will be buried at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Casual attire is preferred by Don’s family.

Don was born on Nov. 28, 1945, in Stratton, Colo., and was the son of Homer Claire Mundell and William and Leora Alice Young Rogers. In 1988, Don became the vice president of Home Oil Stations in Ottumwa and then became the general manager from 1990 to 2005 for the Home Oil Truck Stop in Atalissa, until his health declined. He loved people and, for him, work was enjoyable. Don was united in marriage to Jayne Ellen Lovell Spies on June 15, 1996, at the Mt. Zion Church in Tipton.

Don is survived by his wife, Jayne Mundell, of Atalissa, Iowa; his children, Alynn R. Mundell of Oskaloosa, Aaron R. Mundell and significant other, Angie Foreman of Altoona, Andy R. (Jenny) Mundell of West Branch, Jacie (John, Sr.) Thomsen of Rochester, Jadie Spies of Iowa City, Jalie Gilleland of Tipton, and Dalen (Amanda) Spies of Moscow, Iowa; sisters, Judy (Charlie) Bastian of Cornelius, N.C., Evelyn Zimmerman of Colby, Kan., Marilyn (Ray) Ayer of Montrose, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Deb Mundell of Denver, Colo., and Donna Rogers; brothers Jerry (Donna) Mundell, William “Bill” Rogers and James “Jim” Rogers all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Mundell, Leora Rogers, and William “Bill” Rogers; and brothers Herbert “Cy” Mundell, Walter “Walt” Mundell, Richard “Bones” Mundell and Thomas “Tom” Rogers.
