The free skin cancer screening event held Saturday and organized by West Branch resident Molly Menard brought in 114 visitors.
Menard said the same event brought in 69 visitors in 2012.
“We blew that out of the water,” she said. “It was a great turnout. I was ecstatic.”
Of the 114, 28 were referred to dermatologists for a follow-up appointment.
No melanoma cases were found of those who signed up to be seen, but Menard said a mother brought in a son to be seen and a daughter came along for the ride. While in the exam room, the dermatologist turned to the girl and pointed to a spot on her skin, telling the mother to have it removed immediately.
Patients came from 17 towns, including Des Moines, Ankeny, Victor, Atkins, Cedar Rapids, Tipton, Ames, Wellman and West Branch.
