Two injured in crash at Hoover Highway and Garfield by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · July 19, 2013
Two motorists suffered undetermined injuries Tuesday morning when they collided at the intersection of Garfield Road and Herbert Hoover Highway/290th Street, according to Iowa State Patrol.
ISP Trooper Bob Smith said the two drivers are Robert Gregory, 84, of Tipton and Melissa Ward, 38, of West Liberty.
Smith said Gregory was driving westbound on Hoover Highway and pulled in front of Ward’s car, which was headed north. Ward’s car “T-boned” Gregory’s car in the intersection about 7:25 a.m.
Tipton Ambulance, West Liberty Fire Department, West Liberty Police Department, Cedar County Sheriff, West Branch Fire Department, West Branch Police Department and ISP responded to the scene. Ward’s car came to a rest in the middle of the intersection and was blocking traffic; WBPD Chief Mike Horihan helped ISP and sheriff’s deputies direct traffic around the accident scene.
Ward’s vehicle was smashed in the front, while Gregory’s vehicle was smashed on the driver’s side.
Smith said he has not yet spoken to the drivers, but stated that Gregory would have had a stop sign at the intersection.
Both were taken to area hospitals with undetermined injuries. Neither driver had passengers, he said.
The cars were towed from the scene by Robert’s Towing & Recovery.
