Harlan J. “Chick” Wiese, 87, died Friday May 31, 2013, at his home in West Liberty.

Private family graveside services will be held in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Harlan Joseph Wiese was born Oct. 21, 1925, in West Liberty, the son of Paul and Ollie Neubaurer Wiese.

He was a graduate of West Liberty High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. For many years he owned and operated The Pub in West Liberty and in later years spent many hours picking up aluminum cans, something he enjoyed doing. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include one sister, Kathryn Elder of Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Margaret Gruhn, Marie Walker and Blanche Robertson; and a brother, Paul Jr.
