Joann Slach, 74, of Iowa City, formerly of West Branch and West Liberty, died suddenly Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at her home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 20 at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, 201 Pedersen St., West Branch, with Rev. Ruth Blayer officiating. Pallbearers were Donnie Shook, John Georgie, Evan Engbroten, Steve Goff, Gary Goff and Danny Owens Jr. Dale Thomas was soloist. Burial was in the West Branch Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Joann was born Dec. 27, 1931 in Waterloo, the daughter of Vaughn and Edith Frankford Owens. On June 29, 1959, she was united in marriage to Arnold Slach in Nashua.
She had been employed with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City in the nutrition department, and later at Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Iowa City.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold, of Iowa City; a sister, Thelma (Richard) Holmes of Marshalltown; two brothers, Mike (Donna) Owens of Lawson, Mo., and Dennis (Dorothy) Owens of Neillsville, Wis. She was preceded in death by a brother Danny, and two sisters, Peggy Buchmayer and Dixie Trotter.
