Hoover expecting a boy ... Aug. 10 News · May 24, 2013
Margaret Hoover, great-granddaughter of President Herbert Hoover, and husband John Avlon announced earlier this month on Twitter that they are expecting a baby boy — on the same date as the 31st President’s birthday.
“’We have another General Grant in our house’, keeps popping into my head — Jesse Hoover’s announcement on the day of Bert’s birth,” Margaret said in an e-mail to the Times.
She said the baby is due Aug. 10, but they are keeping the name secret. Some of the couple’s friends have on Twitter suggested names — Ronald, Roland and Ruben — and Margaret jokingly suggested calling him “’Piers’ if he comes w/ “a lifetime @NRA membership :).”
The comment was in reference to TV host and journalist Piers Morgan’s push for gun control. Margaret appeared as an opposing view on Morgan’s show in March.
Hoover and Avlon married in 2009. Margaret has visited West Branch several times, often during Hoover’s Hometown Days, previously known as Hooverfest, but will miss the 2013 event.
“John and I are disappointed we won’t be able to attend the West Branch festivities in August this year,” she wrote, “but look forward to bringing Herbert Hoover’s great-great-grandson to town as soon as we can.”
