Venita M. Harned, 91, of West Liberty died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

Funeral services for Venita and her husband, Virgil, who died three days earlier, were Monday April 8, 2013, at the First Church United in West Liberty. Visitation was held an hour prior to services at the church. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Venita was born June 10, 1921, in Letts, Iowa the daughter of Ernie and Mary (Kennedy) Vetter. She was a graduate of Nichols High School. On Nov. 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Virgil Harned in Muscatine, Iowa.

Venita and Virgil purchased the Brown Lynch Hardware store in West Liberty and operated it for many years as Harned True Value Hardware, until their retirement.

She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty, the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose Lodge in Muscatine.

Survivors include her three children: Donna (James) Stagg of West Liberty, Kenneth (Sydney) Harned of West Liberty and Linda (Lyle) Buline of Lone Tree; six grandchildren: Debra (Marty) Haugh, Andrew (Danielle) Stagg, Curtis (Melissa) Stagg, Brandon (Renee) Harned, Kyle (Laura) Harned and Melinda (Brad) Tripses; 14 great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by husband Virgil on April 4; parents; sister Gola Buser; and two brothers, Keith Vetter and Virgil Vetter.
