Phillip Thomas, 88, of Cedar Rapids passed away at Northbrook Care Center on Jan. 18, 2013.

Phil was born Oct. 26, 1924, in West Branch to Catherine and Bus Thomas. He served in World War II on B17ís as navigator and flew out of England. After the war he returned home and was active in businesses in West Branch and served on the town council and as mayor of West Branch.

Phil worked for the Veterans Administration and was an advocate for veterans. He lived in many states but enjoyed his years at Lake of the Ozarks the most.

He requested cremation and no services. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

He was a gentleman.

He is survived by his wife, Ruthann of Cedar Rapids; son, Scott (Jane) of Claremore OK, Dixie Collins (Steve Maravetz) of Mt. Vernon, Jim Wick (Elizabeth) of Cedar Rapids IA, daughter, Laura Wick of Seattle WA, Sarah Wick of Tiffin and Tom Bryson; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
