PowerPoint, DVDs at new service

Trying to reach a new crowd with a more contemporary service, Bethany Lutheran will start a Sunday evening service at the end of the month.
And it won’t even meet in the sanctuary.

Pastor Chad Whaley said the service begins 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and the crowd will gather in the Great Hall, where the church hosts Vacation Bible School and other large meetings.

“We know there are some folks who, because of their job or time, can’t make it,” Whaley said. “Some just like a different style.”

The new service includes sermons with PowerPoint presentations and music with DVDs so parishioners can sing along, he said.

“Our worship committee spent a year in prayer and trying to work it out,” the pastor said. “We’re excited about it, and we’ll see where it goes.”
