Esther V. Zulaica, 89, of West Liberty died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.
Funeral mass was Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Visitation was Monday at the Church. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty.

Esther was born March 4, 1923, in Zaragoza, Mexico, the daughter of Juan and Clara Velasquez Valdez. She was united in marriage to Ygnacio Zulaica in 1938. She had been employed with West Liberty Foods in West Liberty.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Her passion was making sure all her family was well-cared for.
Survivors include three children: Homer Zulaica, Eustolia (Emelio) Partida and Esther (Jose) Renteria, all of West Liberty; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ygnacio; two daughters: Tomasita Palacios and Zulema Zulaica; daughter-in-law Lucille Zulaica; three sisters: Hermina, Manuela, Eloda; brother Heriberto; three grandsons: Armando Partida, Lee Partida and Ignacio Palacios; and one great-granddaughter, Azariel Rae Zulaica.
