Dorothy Mae Ruess Allen, 85, formerly of West Liberty and East Moline, died June 20, 2012, in Corvallis, Ore.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty, with Fr. Dennis Martin officiating June 26, 2012, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment was held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in West Liberty. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born on May 20, 1927, southwest of West Liberty, Iowa, to Albert and Margaret Ruess.

She attended West Liberty Schools and later worked in Davenport, Iowa. She married Joseph Allen on Feb. 12, 1955 at St. Joseph Church in West Liberty, Iowa. They lived in East Moline where Joseph was employed at Rock Island Arsenal and she was a homemaker. Joseph died in 1987. She continued to live in East Moline where she was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Later she lived in West Liberty, Palm Springs, Calif., and finally in Corvallis, Ore., to be near her sister, Cecilia.

She was an avid Cubs’ fan, attending ball games whenever possible with Joe. She was born the youngest of seven children.

She is survived by sister-in-law Geraldine Ruess of West Liberty and brother-in-law Jack Marron, of Medford, Ore., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dottie was cherished by all her family with her mischievous smile and card-playing tricks, bringing back many sweet memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Cecilia Cotter and Mary Jane Marron, brothers, Edmund (Millie), Donald (Beryl), Robert (Geraldine) and James (Loretta).

Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
