Alice Cleo Phillips, 78, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.


Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation was Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. Alice was born April 4, 1932, in Eminence, Mo., the daughter of Jonithan and Myrtle Kuntz Pogue. On May 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Ephriam Phillips in Eminence.

She had been employed with Owens Brush/Oral B for 39 years as well as Crestview Care Center, Simpson Memorial Home and Cookson Home. She enjoyed camping, quilting, her flowers and grandchildren. Alice was proud of obtaining her GED on May 21, 1986.

Survivors include five sons: Ken (Diane) Phillips of Springdale, Wayne (Connie) Phillips of Prairie Grove, Ark., Roger Phillips of Pine Bluff, Ark., Ronald (Sandy) Phillips of Wapello and Mike Phillips of West Liberty; one daughter, Debra (James) Lovetinsky of West Liberty; three sisters: Leo (John) Setzer of O’Fallon, Mo., Helen Hasty of New Haven, Mo., and Sallie Martin of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law Ida Pogue of Ellington, Mo.; brother Tyman (Joan) Pogue of Ballwin, Mo.; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James in 1969; daughter Patricia; and brothers Roscoe and John Pogue.
