City issues weight limits for city streets to prevent damage
News · March 05, 2010

Due to this winter’s conditions being similar to last year, and the damage we experienced during the thawing of the ground, the City is taking some preemptive measures to reduce damage to City streets this year.
The City’s main areas of concerns at this time are the seal coat streets. These streets are the most susceptible to damage caused by the freeze/thaw cycle we experience during this time of year.

Because of this the City is implementing a voluntary weight embargo of 5 tons on the following areas:

• North 4th Street from the north edge of the Cargill driveway north to 280th Street.

• 280th Street from North Downey east to north Fourth Street.

• Cedar-Johnson County line road from Main Street north to Greenview.

These areas will have signs posted identifying them with the temporary weight limits. The City is asking for the public’s cooperation in abiding by this embargo to help reduce further damage to these roads as spring progresses.

If you have any questions please contact Brian Brennan, Public Works Director, at 643-2828 or Kyle Soukup, City Administrator, at 643-5888.
