5K race against Rett Syndrome
Sports · February 24, 2010

A 5K Reverse Rett Race is set for 9:15 a.m. June 12 at Lower City Park in Iowa City, starting near Shelter No. 9.

The Kauffman family of West Branch is hosting the event in hopes that their niece, Kate, and other victims of Rett Syndrome, can raise money for research on Rett Syndrome.

“Good news was discovered in an amazing breakthrough study, co-funded by International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Rett Syndrome was reversed in a genetic mouse model Feb. 8, 2007. This study gave hope to a very dismal diagnosis for our girls,” according to a brochure for the race. Rett Syndrome primarily affects girls.

Registration will begin at 8:30. The 5K will start at 9:15 a.m. and a one-mile walk/roll will follow. The race will be timed by the Anita Run Club.

The entry fee is $25 for individuals (T-shirt included) and $40 for a family of two or more (T-shirt not included).

Entries may be mailed to Reverse Rett Race, c/o Heather Kauffman, 1143 180th Street, Adair, IA, 50002.
