Tipton to host EIHC-Big East all-star basketball game

Fans of both the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference and the Big East Conference, get ready.


For the first time in the two leagues’ histories, seniors from both conferences will play each other in a boy-girl doubleheader senior shoot-out this Saturday, March 31.

Seniors from the two conferences will converge on Tipton Middle School, Saturday March 31 at 6 p.m. for the two games.

A girls all-star game will tip-off at 6 p.m. with the boy’s contest scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for students.

The EIHC girls team is led by all-state guard Jodie Krall of Solon. Senior Alex Hogan will represent West Branch on the EIHC squad.

For the Big East girls team, conference champion and state qualifier Andrew is represented by four of its five starters. Ten players on the Big East roster earned all-conference honors.

For the EIHC, boys conference champion Solon has two representatives with All-State guard Matt Lesan and John Stocker. Class 2A state runner-up Mid-Prairie has two representatives in Kyle Graber and Braden Kos. In all, the EIHC boys team has six first-team all-conference players on its roster, including West Branch senior Caleb Walter. Senior Michael Murphy, a second-team all-EIHC pick, has also been asked to play on Saturday.

For the Big East boys team, conference champion Bellevue Marquette has three representatives in Matt Killburg, Casey Kettmann and Brig Moore. Class 2A state qualifier Northeast Goose Lake has two representatives in all-state guard Dylan Diedrich and guard Nick Mohr.
