Marie E. Kober, 98, of West Branch, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, five hours shy of her 99th birthday, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Immediately following the interment, a luncheon will be held at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue. Memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice.
Marie was born on Feb. 2, 1919 in Pocahontas, Iowa, the daughter of Claas and Trintje (Doernath) Ziegler. On Sept. 30, 1938, Marie married Edward Jacob Kober in Rolfe, Iowa. He later passed away in August 1984. She spent most of her adult life in Iowa City and the surrounding area, and in Bradenton, Fla.
Marie was a charter member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was an avid crocheter, embroiderer, enjoyed needlepoint and most importantly, loved her family. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children: Loren (Kay) Kober of West Branch, Iowa, Yvonne Kahler of Amana, Iowa, Virginia Alston of West Branch, Iowa, and Leland (Becky) Kober of West Liberty, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven siblings, sons William J. and Henry C. Kober, daughter Annette Walker, grandchildren Jeff Kober and Danny Walker, son-in-law Ralph Kahler, and a great-granddaughter Diana Walker.
