Johnson County’s Board of Supervisors will submit a request for grant funding to rebuild two miles of Herbert Hoover Highway, a project scheduled to take place in 2021.

Secondary Roads Department predicts needing about $5 million to reconstruct the Hoover Highway from Cedar-Johnson Road to one mile east of Wapsi Avenue.

It seeks half the money from a federal grant.

The grant application states that the road “is a major collector between Iowa City and West Branch” expecting to handle about 4,300 vehicles per day.

“The existing pavement is in poor condition and there are several aspects of the roadway that do not meet current design standards,” reads the application.
