Ambulance flips on I-80
by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · January 18, 2018

West Branch Fire Department emergency responders responded just after 3 p.m. Sunday to the 258 milemarker on Interstate 80 westbound after reports of an ambulance — with a patient inside — slipping off the snowy road and flipping over into a ditch.

Johnson County Ambulance Service responded to the scene to transport a hospital two Medic Emergency Medical Services staff and its patient.

WBFD’s Matt Hills said injuries were undetermined and that the Medic ambulance was making a non-emergency patient transport at the time it slid off the road.

WBFD members who responded to the scene said none could think of a time when they had ever before responded to an ambulance crash.

“That might be a first,” Hills said.

Iowa State Patrol reported that the lanes reopened at about 3:50 p.m.
