Letter: Constitution great, but may need tweaking
Op-Ed · November 16, 2017

As we celebrate all we are grateful for in our personal lives, during Thanksgiving holidays next week, let us also give thanks for the Constitution that gives our national community its liberty and identity.

We can be thankful for the wisdom of the framers who recognized the shortcomings of our first national document, the Articles of Confederation, and guided us peacefully into a better document and process for the future.

Let us remember that the second document, the Constitution, is a product of the humans of a particular time and place, and may yet need refinements for our times.

Domestic tranquility, a just law enforcement and judicial system, and the general welfare are goals worth discussing respectfully.
