Several West Branch middle and high school pupils traveled Oct. 2 to Cascade High School to take part in a daylong training session for the annual River Valley Conference Honor Choir.
Eleven seventh- and eighth-grade pupils and a dozen high school students trained under Jennifer Wagner of Highland High School and Dr. Gerald Kreitzer of Mount Mercy University, respectively.

“The students did a fabulous job all day long,” WBHS Vocal Director Chris Reed said. “They were professional, well behaved, worked extremely hard, and represented the West Branch Vocal Music Program as they should.”

Qualifying middle school pupils included Anne Bower, Hilda Hernandez, Madison Hovancik, Raegan Borland, Ali Butler, Karley Staker, Bailey Walker, Matt Colbert, Zander Hartnett, Joseph Heithoff and Gavin Hills.

High school students included Mia Olson, Olivia Schultes, Jaylen Votroubek, Josie Miller, Cassie Scheer, Sarah Scheer, Connor Norfleet, Logan Norfleet, Barrett Walsh, Jacob Arruda, Jacob Koppes and Jonathan Wargo.

The younger singers performed songs like “Gypsy Fiddler” by Melrose and “As Long as I have Music” by Price and Besig; the older students sang pieces like “Hallelujah, Amen” by Handel and “Fa Una Canzona” by Vecchi.
