The 20th Annual Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award Presentation Day begins 9 a.m. Saturday in the Figge Auditorium at the Hoover Library-Museum.

The first of 14 presentations begins at 9:15 a.m. and the last begins at 3:15 p.m., with an awards ceremony scheduled for 4:15 p.m.

Each of the 14 students, all high school seniors, receive $1,000 for making it to the finals. The Foundation will also award $5,000 scholarships for the top projects, as well as the Mariah Becker Volunteer Leadership Award.

This year’s students put forth projects like “FemStem,” designed to encourage girls to pursue science careers; “The Bee Box Project,” to help native insects and plants prosper; and “Multigenerational Playground,” which added playground equipment to a city park to attract senior citizens to exercise more.
