Letter: Good grades should come before sports
Op-Ed · September 21, 2017

My name is Philip MacGillivray and I am currently a seventh-grader at West Branch Middle School.

I am writing to tell you how I think about having to have good grades to do school sports.

I think we should have to have good grades in order to play sports.

I think that school is more important than sports. Even if you do go professional, you will always need a backup job because chances are that you won’t be playing until you’re 65.

If you do well in school and you know a lot about your backup job, you could become very successful in that and want to do it for the rest of your life.

Another reason you will want to do well in school is the fact that you’re most likely not going to make it into the big leagues.

If you don’t go professional, then you want to be good at your backup because it will most likely be what you do for the rest of your life.

You will be happier if you do good at your job.

In conclusion, you will always do some kind of job no matter if you go pro or not, so why not be good at it?

I hope this letter has changed your perspective on whether or not you should be good in school to play sports.

Sincerely,

Philip MacGillivray
