Whaley helps earn 18 points for Little Hawks

Iowa City High School’s girls swimming team beat visiting Dubuque Hempstead 130-56 Sept. 7 at Mercer Aquatic Center.


West Branch swimmer Lauren Whaley helped contribute 18 points to the Little Hawks score.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Iowa City had three squads among five entered, finishing first with 1:56.84, third with 2:05.79, and fourth with 2:19.36. However, the fourth-place squad’s time was scratched.

Whaley was part of the third-place squad and swam her lap in 28.74 seconds, earning two points for the Little Hawks.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Whaley took second place with 29:05, earning four points.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Whaley finished second with 1:02.89, earning four points.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, City High’s squad entered three of five squads, finishing first with 4:12.53, second with 4:24.59 and fourth with 4:52.23.

The fourth-place finish was not counted. Whaley swam with the first-place squad and finished her laps 1:02.85. First place earned eight points.
