Varsity, JV cross country win at IMS

The City High boys cross country team, with five West Branch runners, participated in the Iowa Mennonite School Early Bird Meet in rural Kalona Aug. 29. The varsity and the junior varsity team each won.


The West Branch runners all ran the junior varsity race.

“(It was a) great meet tonight,” City High Head Coach Jayme Skay said.

In the varsity race, the Bear-Hawks captured seven of the top-10 places. Caden Turnbough finished first with a time of 16:46.27. Lucas Firmstone was second in 17:01.65. In third place was Max Quenton with a time of 17:06.89. James Momurg finished fourth in 17:15.82. J.P. Rethwisch was the final scorer for the Bear-Hawks in the varsity race. He placed sixth in 17:35.10.

West Branch senior John Muckler was the frontrunner for the Bear-Hawks in the junior varsity race. He finished seventh in 18:29.45. Junior Keegan Sotelo finished in 20:42.40 for 43rd place. Will Martin, a West Branch senior, had a time of 20:57.23 for 48th place. Sophomore Barrett Walsh ran the race in 21:42.67 for 57th place. Sophomore Jonathan Wargo ran the race in 22:42.90 for 72nd place.

The JV Bear-Hawks took the first 16 places and 28 of the top 29 spots.
