Swails qualifies for national games

Ben Swails, the son of West Branch High School Class of 1992 graduate Laura Williams, was selected as a direct selection for the 2017 USSA All American Games in 13U Baseball.
The Clear Creek-Amana eighth-grader tried out for the team June 9 in Des Moines and was one of two selected from the state.
He joined the roster of the Central National team which will compete Aug. 6-12 in Orlando, Fla., at the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex.
The family is hosting a fundraiser 5 to 8 p.m. July 21 at Throttle Down in Tiffin to help cover the costs of the trip.

Swails’ grandparents are Kurt and Cathy Johnson of Rochester and great-grandmother is Peg Anderson, also from the West Branch area.
