West Branch Fire Department responded to a crash about 1:30 p.m. June 16 on the on-ramp from Herbert Hoover Highway to westbound Interstate 80.
ISP Ofc. Eric Payne said Chante Williams, 23, of Iowa City and four passengers were driving east on Hoover Highway when Williams turned left onto the on-ramp.

Payne said Williams failed to yield and turned in front of a 1994 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Donald Lacina, 80, of Iowa City.

Lacina was unable to stop in time and the truck struck the rear end of Williams’ Ford Focus.

Williams was cited on a charge of failure to yield.

The passengers, some children, sustained minor injuries and were taken by family members in another vehicle for medical attention.

Three other vehicles — an RV pulling a boat on a trailer, a Jeep and a sedan — were stopped behind the truck and the drivers and passengers remained to speak with emergency responders.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Department blocked off the ramp to traffic for about 30 minutes.

Iowa City Fire Department also responded to the scene.
