11 season-bests at RVC conference meet

The West Branch girls track and field team turned in 11 season-best performances at the River Valley Conference meet held at Bellevue May 4.

“It was a beautiful night and great competition,” West Branch Co-head Coach Carol Lumpa said. “We challenged the girls to embrace both to take advantage of it, to compete for season-best times, jumps, and throws. The girls rose to the occasion.

“Our conference champion was Paige Miller in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.27. She dominated the event, winning by three seconds. Paige has posted the fastest time in 2A in this event this year.”

The 4x200 team of Tatum Koenig, Jaylen Votroubek, Kaiya Luneckas, and Miller took second place in their event with a season-best time of 1:49.70.

“The shuttle hurdle relay finished a close second to 2A state-leader Cascade, with a season-best time of 1:08.53,” Lumpa said. “This time moves the foursome of Tatum Koenig, Jaylen Votroubek, Kaiya Luneckas and Paige Miller into the 3rd spot in 2A.”

The same group of girls dropped their 4x400 time by seven seconds. Their season-best time of 4:08.92 was good for third place. “The 4x400 team is listed fifth in 2A,” Lumpa said.

The 4x100 team of Taylor Thein, Haley Mullinnix, Riley Vaughan, and Autumn Kolpin had a season-best time of 54.95 for seventh place.

In the sprint medley relay race, Thein, Mullinnix, Votroubek, and Luneckas placed fifth with a season-best time of 1:58.00.

The distance medley team of Vaughan, Kolpin, Clare Muckler, and Aubrey Baylor had a season-best time of 4:58.75.

In the field events, Mikayla Prusha was fourth in the high jump, clearing 4-10. Koenig was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 15-03.5. Thein had a jump of 13-09.5 in the long jump, a season-best performance. Kaylee Montgomery put the shot 28-0.5, and Mackenzie Heise put the shot 31-10.25 for eighth place. Heise had a season-best toss in the discus of 93-04.5, and Montgomery had a season-best throw of 93-11.2 for eighth place.

Taylor Boelk and Aurora Eilertsen each turned in season-best times in the 800m run. Boelk finished in 2:49.70, and Eilertsen’s time was 2:53.66.

In the sprints, Mullinnix finished in seventh place in the 100m dash with a time of 14.13. Grace Kirchner finished in 15.78. Mullinnix had a time of 29.87 in the 200m dash. Thein’s time was 29.89. Kirchner ran the 400m dash in a season-best time of 1:17.72.

Baylor finished the 100m hurdles in 19.57.

“The girls were really excited after the meet, and now we have a week to prepare for the State-Qualifying Meet which is Thursday, May 11, at Tipton,” Lumpa said.
