2017 will be a year of celebration for Cedar County ISU Extension and Outreach as the organization reaches its 100-year anniversary as an Extension Office.

“We are continuing a year of celebration on April 17 during Extension Week at the Cedar County Extension Office in Tipton with ISU cupcakes available during the day,” read a press release. “They are also reaching out to the citizens of Cedar County through the support of the banks in the county.”

Participants are welcome to pick up cupcakes at Liberty Trust and Savings in Bennett and Durant, Bridge Community in Mechanicsville, American Trust and Savings Bank in Lowden, US Bank in West Branch, and Community State Bank in Clarence, Stanwood and West Branch.

In 1903, a group of Sioux County farmers cooperated with Iowa State University to establish the “extension idea” taking the land-grant college to the people. In 2003, Iowa State University celebrated 100 years of ISU Extension and Outreach helping Iowans become their best.

Starting in 2012, county extension offices throughout the state have been celebrating their 100-year milestones of work and hiring of their first agents.

“Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will continue to carry Iowa State’s land-grant mission beyond campus, to be the university that best serves the citizens of Iowa over the next 100 years and beyond,” read the release. The Extension works as a 99-county campus, providing education and partnerships designed to solve problems and prepare for the future.

“Be sure to join the 100-year celebration on April 17 and to watch for announcements during the coming months as we publicize and post information about our 100-year journey,” read the release. “We have been able to reach this 100 year milestone with your support and are able to celebrate much success in our programming and positive impact on our county.”
