John Charles Hagmeier, 76, of La Crosse, Wis., and formerly of West Liberty, passed away suddenly Thursday, March 16, 2017, at his winter home in Panama City Beach, Fla.

Funeral mass was Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Visitation was Tuesday at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial was in Mt. John was born Dec. 3, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Charles and Catherine (Weirather) Hagmeier.

John had been employed with Northern Propane, City of West Liberty as city manager, Town and Country Real Estate, owned the Downtowner Restaurant, and was working with Geico at the time of his retirement.

He enjoyed University of Iowa Athletics especially Iowa football, all games he could win at, karaoke, dancing, being a handyman, wine, his Christmas wine party, meeting new people, storytelling, slow pitch softball and spending winters in Florida. John and Joyce lived in La Crosse, Wis., and they enjoyed spending their winters in Panama City Beach, Fla. Thousands of lives have been touched by John’s warmth, humor, carpentry skills and outgoing personality. John always brought people that he met into his world of enthusiasm of what he was doing. He will be remembered fondly as “The Silver Fox” as he was introduced, when he was on the stage singing karaoke one of his favorite past times in recent years.

He is survived by two daughters: Gina Yoder of Tiffin and Clarissa (Mike) Martin of Wilton, fiancée Joyce Mickschl of LaCrosse, Wis.; grandchildren: Travis Yoder, Ethan Yoder, Kira Yoder, Charles Martin, Scott Martin, Joann Martin and Robert Martin; four sisters: Theresa Swinderman of Keokuk, Julie (Fred) Simeoni of Elmhurst, Ill., Geraldine Myers of St. Louis,, Mo., and Ann (Toby) Stigall of Keokuk; brother Joseph Hagmeier of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepdaughters: Kathy (Tim) Coughlin, Mary (Gary) Behrens, Susan Mickschl and significant other John Berlanga, Sherri (Steve) Todd; stepson Tim Steckman; stepgrandchildren: Justin Roesler and significant other Melissa Reinsvold, Jared Mickschl and wife Rachel, Jacob Roesler and wife Kali, Alyssa Coughlin and significant other Dustin Hanson, Molly Coughlin and Johnathan Berlanga; and stepgreatgrandchildern Evelyn Joy Roesler and Nolan Patrick Mickschl.

He was preceded in death by two wives: Joyce Summers Hagmeier and Mary Lou Steckman Hagmeier; brother Robert and wife Evelyn Hagmeier; brother Raymond Hagmeier; and three brothers in law: Donald Swinderman, Donald Summers, and Richard Myers.
