Springdale native Jennifer Sabourin, a 1999 graduate of Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame on February 18, along 6 other individuals.

Currently Indian Hills’ director of Student Services, Housing and Retention, she also works as an academic advisor.

Sabourin, who was an outstanding softball player at West Branch High School prior to enrolling in Indian Hills, went on to get her B.A. degree at the University of Tennessee.

During her softball career at Indian Hills, Sabourin’s teams lost only 12 of their 141 games.

She was an All-Region pick during her 2-year stint at Indian Hills, and during her sophomore season was picked as a first team All-American.

Sabourin is among the leaders in 7 softball offensive categories at Indian Hills, along with being highly ranked in the school’s career softball statistics.

At the University of Tennessee she was a member of the National Christian Conference Athletic Association national championship team in 2001 and she was selected as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American.

Sabourin returned to Indian Hills where she served as an assistant softball coach, helping to lead Indian Hills to a pair of national tournament berths.

She also filled in one season as the interim head coach, piloting the Warriors to a 42-15 mark.  Sabourin has also served IHCC as an assistant volleyball coach.

When she and others were inducted into the Indian Hills Hall of Fame in mid-February, the fans responded especially loudly when Sabourin’s name was read.

“I think my daily interaction with current students led to that response. It’s still nice to receive it,” Sabourin said.

“You have fans that are there to support all of our athletic programs; you’ve got fellow inductees and their families that might be experiencing this event for the first time and you’ve got all of our current student athletes that get to see the history of our programs being celebrated.

“I’m grateful to have as much support as I had. I’m blessed to be a part of Indian Hills and blessed to have the chance to have a positive effect on so many people’s lives.”
