Scam reported in Johnson County
News · February 16, 2017

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department on Friday reported several complaints regarding a person calling and identifying themselves as a deputy at the Sheriff’s Office.
The person claims the recipient missed jury duty, that there is a warrant for their arrest and they have the option for paying a bond or fine or turning themselves in to the jail.

“This is a scam and the perpetrators are very convincing,” reads a JCSD press release.

The victims are told to go to Wal-Mart, CVS or other store to conduct a money transfer.

“The Sheriff’s Office will never collect bonds or fines in this manner,” read the release. The JCSD advises residents to not provide personal information or money, and to contact them to file a report.
