Robert A. Vargason, 79, of Elgin, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Robert Aice was born August 18, 1937, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Clint and Edna (Sharp) Vargason.
A Celebration of Life will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Mexico Lindo in the party room.
Bob was united in marriage to Virginia Peterman on September 1955. To this union, three children were born. On Feb. 16, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Colleen Howard in Preston, Minn., and three children were born to this union.
Bob cherished his family and friends and enjoyed every moment with them, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. He spent several years traveling to Texas after retirement. Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, woodworking and camping.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Colleen; five children, Bobby Vargason Jr. of Florida, Nancy (Royce) Penhollow of Oelwein, Clint Vargason of West Branch, Lori (David) Hosier of West Branch, and Scott (Skyla) Vargason of Postville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Anderson (Leo) of Donna Texas; sisters-in-law, Margaret Vargason of Weslaco, Texas, Karolynn Mortiz (Garry) of Eldorado, Iowa, and Lois Wickett (Dick) of Clive, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Willie (Yvonne) Kerr of Clermont, Iowa; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Kay; his parents, Clint and Edna; mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Grace Kerr; brothers, Jim, Delbert, and Charles; brothers-in-law Sonny Kerr and Harlo Meyer; and sisters-in-law, Delores Meyer and Katie Kerr.
Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, from at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Friday.
Funeral Services were Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Illyria Community Church, rural Elgin, Iowa, with Pastor Pam Reinig as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at Illyria Community Cemetery in rural Elgin, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob’s name.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa, is helping the family with the arrangements.
