Letter: Voters tired of being told we’re wrong
Op-Ed · November 17, 2016

Mr. Hodgden’s letter in the Nov. 10 Times foretells of severe consequences that were to have attended Hillary’s coronation as our president. Whoops! Something happened on the way to the forum.

He spelled out how the “angry minority” was going to; “... ignore the results of the election, resist the peaceful transition of power and spare no effort to obstruct and delegitimize our democratically elected leaders.”

As it turns out, those of whom he speaks — Trump voters — did not commit any of those cowardly acts. It could be said that Hodgden’s gloomy prognoses were Trumped.

I have no idea where Mr. Hodgden got the idea that we, the “angry minority,” were going take over the Republican Party and carry out all the dastardly acts conjured in his letter. Instead, we the “ignorant electorate,” utilizing the wonderful political tools provided by our founders, cast votes to raise the Republican Party to the pinnacle of power, above the hue and cry of dissidents, thereby obviating any need for lawlessness (which was never contemplated) to achieve our objectives. Republicans now have absolute power to wreak good.

Liberalism’s crushing defeat has probably created an atmosphere in which it will be difficult to resolve problems we face as a nation, especially if Trump follows the Obama formula for reaching across the aisle in disputed matters.

For instance, how many Republicans voted for Obamacare? Zero! Trump, I’ll wager, will be much more gracious in his relations with now-hapless liberals.

The Trump juggernaut overcame headwinds from all quarters; lying pollsters, dire threats such as those voiced by the likes of Mr. Hodgden, utterings from the president’s less-than-bully pulpit, strong opposition from most media, efforts by liberals to contaminate the voting process and, most of all, a deeply-flawed opposition candidate considered to be a shoo-in by her admirers. His victory shattered their every hope and dream if we are to believe the dumbfounded media!

What liberals do not understand is that we, the dumb cluck, conservative electorate, are plumb tired of being subjected to liberals and their cross-threaded ideas of what kind of a nation we should have. We object to Obamacare, paying for abortion and birth control in violation of our beliefs, having to feign respect for deviant behavior, threats to take our firearms, gay marriage, failure to secure our borders, abortion on demand, bludgeoning regulation of every aspect of life, political correctness, corruption at the highest levels, failure to indict all who commit unlawful acts, the goofy idea that human activity affects our climate, the failure to hold people responsible for their actions, having to accede to the dictates of foreigners, facilitating those who refuse to match up the gender listed on their birth certificate with that of the appropriate public bathroom, and the list goes on.

In short, we’re tired of being branded racist or sexist or otherwise intolerant should we dare utter a word of dissent to the liberal agenda. We aren’t going to take it anymore. We accomplished a bloodless coup as contemplated by our Constitution. If there be bloodshed it will come at the behest of liberals.

Responsibility for all the violence we have witnessed both during the campaign and since must be shouldered by liberals, some of whom are not very good losers. Perhaps these rabble-rousers should, instead of striving to stir unrest, follow the principles observed by the conservative losers of the preceding two elections — peace, quiet, tranquility, acceptance. The present unrest will gain them nothing and bodes ill for the future of our republic.

Au contraire, Mr. Hodgden, au contraire. The villains in your missive are not conservatives, they are liberals who have been chopping away at the very pillars of our nation’s foundation for over 30 years. Their efforts to subvert the intent of our founders have found much success until now.

It is a new day.

Mr. Trump, conservatives and enlightened liberals can now join to stop the rampant vandalism, repair the damage and set our country back on the path mapped out by the framers.
