Ronald Preston Brown passed away on Oct. 17, 2016, at the Simpson Home in West Liberty, Iowa at the age of 90.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at the First Church United, 1100 North Calhoun Street in West Liberty. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or West Liberty Heritage Foundation. He was the son of Preston and Dorothy (Birkett) Brown and was born on Sept. 29, 1926, on their farm near West Liberty. After graduating from West Liberty High School in 1944, Ronald began farming with his dad and continued the livestock and grain operation until his retirement. On Aug. 29, 1948, Ronald and Zoe Ann Mantor were united in marriage in West Liberty and resided at the farmstead raising their four children.

Ronald was very active in the community and church. He was a member of the West Liberty Rotary for many years and Mt. Calvary Masonic Lodge. He served on the Muscatine County Extension Council, was a Wapsinonoc Township Trustee, leader of the Wapsie Warriors 4-H Club, Chairman of Wapsie-Goshen Farm Bureau, Master of the South Prairie Grange, West Liberty Christian Church Sunday School Superintendent, and member of First Church United, where he served on the board. Ronald enjoyed playing billiards, driving his vintage tractors and 1948 Plymouth, and was an avid sports fan.

Ronald leaves his many loved ones: four children, Steven Brown (Sheryl) of West Liberty, Kathy Gervasi (Mark) of Tillamook, Ore., Karen Spears (Robin) of Sheldon, Iowa, and Thomas Brown (Diana) of West Liberty; six grandchildren, Marty Brown (Kess), Laurie Derby (Aaron), Michelle Elizondo (Noel), Kristin Brown, Eric Brown (Breann) and Jessica Schroeder (Brian); three stepgrandchildren: Chris Gervasi (Viola), Matthew Gervasi and Ryan Gervasi; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise Raffety (Maynard) of Grinnell, Iowa, and Janice Christensen (Carl) of Coralville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zoe Ann; parents Preston and Dorothy Brown; sister Corinne James; and infant grandson, Steven Preston Brown, Jr.
