Fire burns near fuel
by Gregory R. Norfleet · News · September 29, 2016

West Branch Fire Department responded to a pickup truck on fire about 5:15 p.m. Sept. 20 on the Interstate 80 milemarker 259 westbound off-ramp.

Emergency responders found an engine fire, Fire Chief Kevin Stoolman said, with a secondary concern that the truck had 100 gallons of gas in a tank in the bed of the truck. Stoolman said firefighters needed about 15 minutes to put out the fire while West Branch Police Department blocked the ramp to further traffic.

According to Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, the truck, a 2016 Chevrolet TK, is owned by Chad Brewer of Atkins, Ark.

No one was injured.

The truck pulled an empty shipping container on a trailer, neither of which were damaged, Stoolman said.
