Letter: Where went principles of Sen. Johnson?
Op-Ed · June 23, 2016

About five decades or so ago, I worked for Paulson Construction and we were in the process of enlarging the kitchen for the Don Johnson family.

Every day in the middle of the afternoon, here came all of the Johnson kids. Immediately, some started to hand-mix a double batch of cookies, some changing clothes, getting out two gallons of milk. As the clothes changed, so did the cookie-makers.

All sat down and ate the cookies, drank the milk and did the dishes. Each afternoon, no one had the same chore.

To this day, I have not ever been offered any hand-made Johnson cookies or milk.

When I heard a Johnson was elected to represent the Iowa District 1, R-Ocheyedan, Iowa, 51354, how lucky these people were to be represented by a person who was taught very young how to accomplish work and get along, finishing to the final goal.

Last Sunday, in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, an article said the Iowa District 1 Sen. David Johnson, R-Ocheyedan, Iowa, 51354, dropped the Republican Party over comments made by the Republican presidential candidate Mr. Johnson found objectionable.

Where did the principle of the hand-made cookies and milk go?
